John's Obituary

John R. “Jack” Conlin, Jr., 83, of Benton Harbor, passed away June 9, 2006 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 12, 2006 at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph with Fr. Paul Yeruva officiating. Burial will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Visitation with Jack’s family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Jack was born December 20, 1922 in Chicago, IL to John, Sr. & Frances (Bongart) Conlin. He served his country proudly during WWII in the U.S.Army. He was a Mechnical Engineer with V.M. Corporation and then later with I.P.M. Company. Jack was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus as well as a member of Coloma American Legion 362, and Benton Harbor VFW 1137. Jack enjoyed gardening, and hunting, but his passion was being actively involved with all his grandchildren’s many activities. He is survived by his children – Nancy Conlin Parrott, of Venice, FL, Patrick & John Conlin, Laura (Michael) Bradley, Kathryn (Craig) Brent all of St. Joseph, Sally (Chris) Kauffman of Sawyer, MI, Mary Julian of Fremont, OH, Jeanne (Frank) Briggs of Fenton, MI; his sisters – Patricia (Albert) Hoffman of Rensselaer, IN, and Elizabeth (Gerald) Martin of Lafayette, IN; 29 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Jackson) Conlin in 2003; son Michael Conlin in 1975; daughter Frances Conlin Kim in 2006.
