Nona L. Nichols

Nona L. Nichols, 75, of Benton Harbor, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Silverbrook Manor in Niles. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2006, at 10:00 A.M. at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Chester Watson officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Visitation with the family will be Sunday between 3-5 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family. Nona was born on February 11, 1931 in Mantachie, Mississippi to Jennie & Wynona Cummings. On June 6, 1948 she married Richard Nichols in Mississippi. Together they had 5 children. She was a long-time member of Sweethome Baptist Church in Benton Harbor. Nona enjoyed working on her yard and with her flowers. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren. Nona is survived by her children, Arlanda, Sr., Willie, Sr., & Rosemary Nichols all of Benton Harbor and Willie Nichols, Jr. of the Flint area; God-daughter, Nona Newbern of Benton Harbor; Special grand-daughter, Shanona Nichols; grandchildren, Curtis (Wendy) Gunn, Arlanda Nichols, II.,Anthony (Tiffany) Williams, Duwan Hankins, Sherrie Nichols, Patricia Dean, Demetrius Bridgeman, and Richard Ross; 17 great-grandchildren; special friends, Janet Foster-Smith, Keith Colombel, and Kristina Mc Calla; and her brothers & sisters, Josie Jones, Gennieve Dean, Cloise (Robbie) Cummings, Nelter Christian, & Fay Whitlock all of Benton Harbor and Channie Green of Detroit. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Nichols; and her son Richard Nichols, Jr.
