Raymond W. Sernau, 86, of St. Joseph went to be with his Lord on June 14, 2005. Raymond passed away at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 17, 2005, with Rev. Glenn Rosenbaum officiating at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may meet with the family from 5:00 ? 8:00 P.M., Thursday, June 16, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Raymond was born March 29, 1919 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Gerald and Ella (Polzien) Sernau. He served his country in the United States Seabees for two years. He worked for Whelan Construction, Ross Carriers, and Bendix Corp. for 31 years. On June 12, 1948 he married Edna Brown, having just celebrated 57 years of marriage, and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph. Raymond is survived by his wife Edna; one sister Ruth Young of St. Joseph, one brother-in-law Robert Brown of St. Joseph; two daughters – Cheryl (Doug) Anthony of Stevensville, and Lori (Brian) Shank of St. Joseph; daughter-in-law Janet Sernau of Benton Harbor; three sons – Gerry Sernau of Benton Harbor, Kerry (Vicki) Sernau of Berrien Springs, Ray Sernau of St. Joseph; sister-in-law Marvel brown of Anaheim, Calif.; seven grandchildren ? Rachel (Rev. Jonathan) Arndt, Rebecca Anthony, Matthew Sernau, Kelly Sernau, Eric Sernau, Katherine Shank, Emily Shank; two great-grandchildren ? Nathaniel Arndt, Grace Arndt. Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Gerald and his mother, Ella.
