Grant's Obituary

Grant Gordon DeMars, 57, of Stevensville, went to rest on Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Meadows Hospice Home in Buchanan, with his wife at his side.Grant was born on August 26, 1947, son of the late Floyd and Helen (LaChance) DeMars in Chicago. He was employed at Continental Can, retiring after 27 years, and during this time he graduated from Sienna Heights College with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. In 1995, Grant began a career in Sales and Service for Foodtools, Inc. in South Haven. In his search for family life, he married Marcia Radenbaugh and spent his remaining years devoted to his wife and two daughters. Since Childhood, one of Grant?s passions in life was the game of golf, and at one time he accomplished a handicap of three. He was also a successful landlord, proficient in any kind of household project, whether it be carpentry, electrical, or plumbing. He enjoyed Mechanical Challenges, including automobile and watercraft work.Grant was fond of relating memories of his growing up on Paw Paw Lake and attending Catholic school. He considered his wife and children his greatest blessing. Survivors include his wife Marcia (Radenbaugh) DeMars, whom he married on June 20, 1987 in Stevensville, his daughters Aubree and Jillian, at home; two sisters, Anne Hunter and Helen (John) Cook of Duck, N.C.; two brothers, Floyd DeMars of St. Charles, Mo. And Alfred DeMars of Duck; his niece Monica (Hunter) Thiebodeau and family of Duck; nephews, Kevin Hunter and family of VA, and Tim Hunter and Family of Sacramento, CA; also Chris and John cook of Duck, and Michael and Kyle DeMars of St. Charles, Mo. There also remains a dear aunt in the Upper Peninsula and Grant?s ancestral history on his beloved Mackinac Island. In addition, he leaves behind his father and mother-in-law, Jerome and Susan Radenbaugh of St. Joseph; his brother in law and families; Toben ( Kathleen) Radenbaugh of Charleston, S.C.; Andrew ( Elizabeth) Radenbaugh of St. Joseph; and Matthew ( Vivian) Radenbaugh of Chicago, IL. They journeyed with Grant, their daughter and sister in prayer during his illness, humbled at his determination to win against a terrible foe. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at SS John and Bernard Parish church in Benton Harbor, with Father William Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, concluding with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Kerley-Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.
