Gregory's Obituary

Gregory Thomas Schmidt, 56, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away on February 24, 2005, at Heartland Crestview Nursing Home in Wyoming, Michigan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February, 28, 2005, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Glenn Rosenbaum officiating. Friends may call on the family from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February, 27, 2005, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Greg was born to Henry and Marion (Nimtz) Schmidt on June 25, 1948, in St. Joseph. He attended Michigan State University and majored in computer programming. Greg worked as a computer programmer for Computer Interface in Benton Harbor, Stenograph in Illinois, and the courthouse in St. Joseph. Greg belonged to the N.R.A.. He enjoyed collecting and working with computers and also collecting and reading books. Greg is survived by his sister Constance (Todd) Binsz of Jenison, MI; brothers- Robert (Rachel) Schmidt of Benton Harbor and Mark (Saundra) Schmidt of Richmond, VA; nephews- David, Aaron, and Michael Schmidt; nieces- Sara (Josh) Makinen and Ariel Schmidt; half brothers- Pat, Rob, and Adam Schmidt; half sister Hollie VanDenhazel; aunt Aileen Nimtz; cousin Joanne (Les) La Marre; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Greg was preceded in death by his father Henry in 1974; and his mother Marion in 1967.
