Nancy's Obituary
Nancy (Yops) Sommer, 63, of Stevensville, died Thursday morning, December 30, 2004 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph following a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and aunt who enjoyed the uniqueness of every child she came in contact with. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Bridgman. Friends may call from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer Service or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Nancy was born August 3, 1941 in Benton Harbor, the daughter of Richard & Roma (Knefely) Yops. She was a 1960 graduate of Lakeshore High School. On March 7, 1964, she married Ronald Sommer. Nancy was employed at Bridgman Elementary School as an aide and computer room supervisor for over 25 years. Nancy is survived by her husband Ronald Sommer of Stevensville, two sons-Todd (Stephanie) Sommer of Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada; Kyle Sommer of Detroit, Michigan; her precious grandchildren Samantha & Quin Sommer of Uxbridge, Ontario; her parents Richard & Roma (Knefely) Yops of Stevensville; three sisters-Judith (George) Loeffler, Kathy (Ward) Sanden of Stevensville; and Janice Brown of Bridgman. She also leaves loving memories with nieces Sheri & Stephanie Brown of Bridgman and Laura (Tim) Ziebarth of St. Joseph; nephews Shane (Jill) Brown of Three Oaks, Matthew Smith of St. Joseph and David (Wanda) Loeffler of Prescott, Arizona. Her great-nieces Kaylin and Lexi Ziebarth of St. Joseph and Kyleigh and Autumn Brown of Bridgman brought her much love and laughter as did all of her nieces and nephews.
