Phillip E. Mahaffey, 67, of Benton Harbor, went to meet his Lord & Savior Wednesday, July 09, 2003 at his home with his loving family by his side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Dr., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Haven or the American Cancer Society. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com Mr. Mahaffey was born May 17, 1936 in Wilkes County, North Carolina to Lonnie & Ila (Carpenter) Mahaffey. On June 17, 1955, he married the former Lillian Stone in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Phillip was employed by Michigan Bell, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies from 1955 until his retirement in 1992. From 1992 until March of this year, he was a contractor communications technician with Whirlpool Corporation. Phillip was a member of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, The Telephone Pioneers of America, a former member of the Army Reserve; an avid hunter, gardener, and outdoorsman and most importantly a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Phillip is survived by his wife Lillian; two daughters-Shelley (Jeff) Faraone of St. Joseph, Lana (Matthew) Sharai of St. Joseph; four grandchildren-Tyler & Lainie Faraone; Zachary & Kaylee Sharai; and a sister-Regena (Ed) Holder of North Wilkesboro, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-Carl Mahaffey.
