William's Obituary

William Jay Hild, 56, of Stevensville, died at 4:17pm Sunday, March 17, 2002, in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital. He was formerly of Pekin, IL. Born December 14, 1945 in Pekin, to Edgar Allen and Nelta Sophie Veerman Hild, he married Donna Jane ?Janie? Coe on October 23, 1965, in Kalamazoo. She survives him. Also surviving is one son, Edgar A. (Kim) Hild of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one daughter, Heidi J. (Rob) Winkelmann of Stevensville; three grandchildren ? Melissa D. Hild, Brittany A. Hild, and W. Austin Hild, all of Myrtle Beach; two sisters ? A. Glenda L. (Lester) Schrieber of Pekin and Ruth L. Hild of Kansas City, MO; two nieces and one nephew. His parents preceded him in death. A 1963 graduate of Pekin Community High School, he received a bachelor?s degree in business education from Illinois State University in Normal, IL, and his master?s degree in business education from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. The Lakeshore Public Schools in Stevensville employed Mr. Hild, where he taught business law and accounting at Lakeshore High School for 20 years, was the Assistant Principal at the Lakeshore Middle School for 8 years, and last was the Project Facilitator for 4 years. He retired June of 1999. He was a member of the National Education Association, Michigan Education Association, Lakeshore Education Association, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He currently was serving as the vice president of the Michigan Constructions User?s Council. He was a former scout leader for Stevensville?s Troop 603 of Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and was a member to the Order of the Arrow. He also was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin and attended Stevensville United Methodist Church in Stevensville. He enjoyed golfing, boating and traveling. Services were held at 7pm Tuesday, March 19, at Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Michael McLeod officiated. Further services will be at 10am Friday at Stevensville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gene Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stonecroft Ministries, P.O. Box 9609, Kansas City, MO. 64134, or to the Boy Scouts of America.
