Jean's Obituary
Jean Kathryn Geisler, 88, of Dowagiac, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Riverview Manor, Three Rivers, MI, where she had resided for 6 months. She was born February 2, 1923, in Dowagiac, to the late Ollie and Vera (Tinkey) Pond. On May 23, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, she married Edward Geisler and they lived at his boyhood home in Dowagiac. He passed away in 1993, after 46 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Erwin and Harold Pond, and two sisters, Dorothy Seidl and Margaret Rice. Survivors include her nieces: Christine (Steve) Northrup of Jones, Joan (Dean) Grant of Potterville, Elizabeth Ann Williams of Lansing, and Mary K. (John) Marum of Maryland, and nephews: Kenneth (June) Seidl and Douglas (Shiela) Seidl of Sylvania, OH and James (Charlotte) Pond of Twin Lake, MI, along with several grand nieces and nephews. Although no children were born during her marriage, the entire family of sisters and brothers, along with their spouses, were the center of her life, and her nieces and nephews were the children who made her smile. Her favorite times were when the family would gather at her home for holidays. Even with a small home, there was always room for any of them. She was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High in 1941. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years and then was head cashier for Lou Ann’s Supermarket until retirement. She a member of the Antlerettes and attended many events at the Elks Club over the years. Her favorite entertainment was gathering around the card table with friends and family for rousing and loud games of cards or other board games. Her beagle dogs were her “Girls” and she raised several generations of house pets. She lavished much love and attention on them, along with other neighborhood pets who took advantage of her soft side. Yazel & Clark Chapel is serving the family. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery on Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. Please sign her guestbook and leave a memory of Jean at www.yazel-clark.com
