Brenda Zachary Johnson

Brenda's life began on December 30, 1960 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Gerald G. (Zakrzewski) and Sharon (Huston) Zachary. She was a 1979 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. Brenda worked for Dial A Ride before going to work for the Lewis Cass ISD as a bus driver in 1998. She was united in marriage to Duane “Butch” Johnson on June 3, 1983 in Cassopolis. Brenda was a member of the Dowagiac Women of the Moose. She loved going to the casino, playing bingo and watching her brother Jerry race. Brenda loved going to the county fair and camping. She loved the kids she drove for the Lewis Cass ISD and especially loved her grandchildren. Her family includes her husband Butch Johnson of Dowagiac, children Scott (April) Zachary of Decatur and Mark (April) Johnson of Dowagiac, grandchildren Chelsea and Emma Zachary, Breanna, Reanna, and Blake Anders, Teana Cowley, Kathern and Amanda Johnson, her sister Vicki (Brad) Dufour of Dowagiac and Jerry (Debbie) Zackary, Jr. of Dowagiac. Brenda passed away on Friday June 24 2011 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She is preceded in death by her parents. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Lonnie Carpenter. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the family for the establishment of a college trust for the grandchildren.
