Susan C. Shull

Susan Cook Alfultis ShullSusan died December 6, 2009, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, Georgia. Since October she had been a resident of Jesup HealthCare. For many years Susan lived in Waverly Pines, in Brunswick. She was 72 years old at the time of her death and was born August 5, 1937 in Dowagiac, Michigan. She was the daughter of Katherine Walker and Grafton Hopkins Cook. She graduated from Dowagiac High School and completed her library science education at Mankato State University in Minnesota. She married Abe Alfultis and moved to Savannah and then to Brunswick, Georgia. After Abe's death Susan married Dr. Thomas Shull. Dr. Shull is also deceased as well as Susan's parents and brother, Grafton H. Cook, II, who died August 7, 2009. For many years Susan worked in the Brunswick Public Library and was an Episcopalian.Susan's enjoyed playing the drums, playing golf, her cats, and taking short trips. Once a year she visited her mother in Toledo, Ohio for a week or so. Susan also authored a book for health care workers in treating Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (AADD) and she completed some unusual drawings. Her family and items related to her family were special to her. She will be cremated and buried in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac, Michigan with her parents and baby sister Kay who died in a fire when she was six months old. Susan enjoyed a simple life and she will be missed by Elaine Miller and other friends from Brunswick as well as her sister in law (Barbara Cook of Niles)' niece (Katherine Philips of St. Joseph) and nephews (David in Dowagiac, John in Tennessee, Bud in Alabama and Grafton in Missouri). Yazel-Clark Funeral Home of Dowagiac, Michigan is handling the funeral arrangements.
