JoAnn's Obituary

Joann’s life began September 30, 1943 in Dowagiac, the daughter of Charles and Audrey R. (Taylor) Fritz. She was a graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and attended beauty college. Joann worked for a short time as a beautician and she worked for the Buy-Low store in Dowagiac as a cashier. She was united in marriage to James S. Keen in Angola, IN in 1970. She and Jim ran a second hand store for many years on M-51 South. Joann was a member of the Pokagon United Methodist Church and a supporter of the Old Rugged Cross Foundation and restoration project. Her family includes her father Charles Fritz, Sr. of Dowagiac, siblings Sharon (Fred) Clarke of Dowagiac, Diane (Ronald) First of Dowagiac, Bruce ( Pam) Fritz of Dowagiac and Donald (Jane) Fritz of Portage, sister in law Bonnie Fritz of Dowagiac, 12 nieces and nephews, and step children Jimmy Keen and Gary Keen, both of Dowagiac. Joann passed away on June 26, 2009 at the Cass County Medical Care Center. She is preceded in death by her husband James Keen in 2008, her mother Audrey Fritz, brother Charles “Bucky” Fritz, Jr. and step son Robert S. Keen. Her family will gather with friends at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac on Tuesday June 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. for a graveside service led by Pastor Pattie Haas of the Pokagon United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Old Rugged Cross Foundation. McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home is serving the family.
