Charles's Obituary
Charles “Mike” W. Garrison, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away on August 22, 2016 at Royalton Manor.
Mike was born on November 23, 1924 in St. Joseph to Harold & Emma (Stockwell) Garrison. On May 10, 1947, Mike married the love of his life, Demetra “Dee” Stamos, in St. Joseph. Shortly after graduating from St. Joseph High School, Mike proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and fought for our country during WWII as an Aviation Radioman. Following his separation from the Navy, he worked for and retired from Whirlpool as an Electrician. While working at Whirlpool, he was the past President of the I.B.E.W. Labor Union. For many years, Mike volunteerd his time as a St. Joseph Township Volunteer Fire Fighter. His passion in life was sailing; being out on the open water made him happiest. Mike loved being with his family and spending quality time with them. He was a wonderful man and will be dearly missed by all.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Dee; children, Richard Garrison of Benton Township, Michael (Karen) Garrison of St. Joseph, Denise (Don) Danielson of Kalamazoo, and Sondra Garrison of Evanston, IL; grandchildren, Kristin (Nate) Harrington, Ryan Garrison, Brandon Garrison, Shannon Wood (Adam Thompson), and Lindsey Wood (Brent Will); great-grandchildren, Brelin, Madden, Qeenan, Ellie and Simon; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Emma, and brothers, Harold “Bob” & Bill Garrison.
A private family service will take place at a later date. Burial will be held at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
