Helen's Obituary

Helen J. Schmall-Faher, 86, of Berrien Springs, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Lakeshore Assited Living, Grand Haven, MI, with her family by her side. A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, with burial in Salem Cemetery, Berrien Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien Springs Community Library. Helen was born on August 23, 1934, to Henry and Christina (Scheidt) Schmall in Berrien Springs, MI. She was proud and appreciative of the journey her German parents made to the United States from Russia. Helen graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1952. She grew up on a farm, where she enjoyed working outside and driving the tractor. Helen truly treasured her time on the farm. Professionally, she worked for Whirlpool, Bendix and Eau Claire Schools. Helen was very musically inclined, and played the accordion, piano and harmonica. She also enjoyed dancing, polka music, but most of all, she loved and cherished time spent with her family. Helen is survived by her children, Richard Faher of Placentia, CA, Gary (Elizabeth) Faher of Sodus, MI and Dorinda “Dori” Faher-Anderson of Grand Haven, MI; grandchildren, Nicole (Stephen) Stewart, Kathleen Faher, Laurel Faher, Amanda Anderson and Brienna Anderson and great-grandsons, Daniel and Nolan Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Christina Schmall and siblings, Mary, Catherine, Elisabeth, Henry, Elisabeth, Kathryn, John, Harley, Marjorie and an infant brother.
