Myrtle's Obituary
Myrtle J. Derrter, 93, of South Haven died Saturday, May 5, at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
She was born September 26, 1918 in Birmingham, Alabama. Myrtle married Cornelius Derrter. She worked as a beautician and operated a Mom and Pop Community Store in East Chicago, Indiana. She was a nurse at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member. Myrtle enjoyed cooking especially cakes, pastries, pies, green beans and potatoes.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Cornelius Derrter. Son – Donald Johnson, her brother – John Dixon and a granddaughter – Moana Johnson.
She is survived by her two sons – Ronald Johnson of South Haven, Michigan and Charles Johnson of Miami, Florida. Also surviving are two grand children which she raised – Angela Johnson of Hammond, Indiana and Maurice Johnson of Grand Rapids, Michigan. 22 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 46 great great grandchildren and 3 great great great grandchildren. Special friends – Sweedie Mae Lucas and Sahara Westerfield also survive.
Wake will be Friday, May 18, from 12 – 1 at the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin Friday at 1:00 P.M. at the church with Pastor Charles Knox officiating.
