Leo Mitchell

Leo C. Mitchell, 93, of South Haven died on December 17, 2011 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on July 28, 1918 to Paul C. and Mabel (Burrows) Mitchell in South Haven, MI. Leo served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. and was a member of Maple Grove Bible Church now Anchor Baptist Church. Leo along with his brother owned Mitchell Brothers Mobile Home Park in South Haven until he retired in 1976.

He is preceded in death by his wives, Doris Mitchell in 1983 and Leona Mitchell in 2005, and his brother Dwight Mitchell.

Leo is survived by his son – Paul (Lisa) Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV. His grandchild -Paula (Jon) Kulhanek, two great grandchildren - Isabel and Xander of Homer, AK, and his brother – James (Christine) Mitchell of South Haven, MI. Leo and Doris raised several foster children including Marlene Bradley of South Haven, MI.

Leo was well known in the South Haven community for his generous heart and adventurous spirit. He traveled the world and loved to share his adventures in stories and slideshows. A soft spoken individual, he was open minded and positive in his dealings with everyone. Leo always saw the best in everyone and everything.

At this Thanksgivings gathering he spoke to his family about having had a full life and being ready to go. His decline was quite rapid after this. He died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 21. from 6 to 8 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 11 AM at Anchor Baptist Church with Pastor Theron Crawford officiating. Burial will take place at Covert Cemetery.
