JL's Obituary

JL McKenzie, 90, of South Haven died Wednesday, September 21 at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomingdale.

He was born August 7, 1921 in Gaston, Alabama to Cecil and Rosie Lee (Thomas) McKenzie. JL worked at National Motors in South Haven, where he worked on Shake-out until switching to the core room, retiring in 1975. He is a former member of the Second Baptist Church. JL enjoyed his family and gardening. JL had a fruit stand on M-140 near Ma’s Coffee Pot.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by four sisters – Annie Lee Teague, Rena Drummer, MayBell Traylor, Flossie Williams. One sons – Allen McKenzie. Two brothers – Hudson and Lawson McKenzie.

He is survived by four sons – Raymond McKenzie of Jackson, Michigan, J.L. McKenzie of Holland, Michigan, Bradford McKenzie of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Thomas McKenzie of Covert, Michigan. Four daughters – Patricia Sanders and Jean Sims both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Marian Mims of Bangor, Michigan and Sharon Bruton of Covert, Michigan. One sister – Eartice Langston of South Haven, Michigan. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive.

Wake will be Thursday, September 29 from 12 – 1 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Simon Harrington officiating.
