Clara Lillian's Obituary

Clara Robinson was born March 4, 1921 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Leroy Scruggs and Louella Kellogg. She was the youngest of eleven children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Clara graduated from Booker T. Washington High School where she excelled.

She worked at Great Western Laundry in Chicago as a switchboard operator and held several nursing positions. The last one at the Chicago Tuberculosis Center in Chicago. She also worked as a mortician assistant applying make-up and styling hair for the deceased.

Clara accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was a God fearing woman and spoke of the gospel everywhere she visited and to everyone she met. She often spoke of the struggles she encountered, such as, losing her mother at age eleven. She told how God brought her through that situation and countless other challenging events she encountered in her life.

She married the late Samuel Crayton at an early age in approximately 1936.

She moved to Chicago in the 1940’s and married the late Carlos Robinson in 1955, who preceded her in death. He was a wonderful and devoted spouse and father to her children.

Clara had a heart of gold and frequently took in the sick and elderly. She nursed them back to good health. In addition, she raised and nurtured not only her biological children, but the children of family and others.

Clara had three children that preceded her in death, Annette Crayton, Cleo Branch and John Crayton.
