Joan's Obituary
Joan Helene Hill, 72, of South Haven, died on March 17, 2011 at home.
She was born on July 28, 1938 in Blytheville, AR to William Rodney and Mae Belle Bunch. On April 20, 1963, she married Charles (Chuck) Hill in South Haven, where she lived the remainder of her days. In the early years of her marriage, she was employed at South Haven Rubber and South Haven Coil. But her primary job, and first love, was supporting her family. Whether it was collecting night crawlers with tweezers for fishing excursions, crocheting afghans, keeping score in the stands at the baseball field, or baking homemade bread for every meal, she enjoyed the time spent with family members. She was well known as a wonderful cook and baker, and loved making special cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays. Everyone in the family appreciated her homemade pizza dinners every Wednesday and Saturday night! She was also an excellent seamstress, an avid reader, a country music fan, and a yard sale “junkie”. She loved wallpapering with her sister, talking on the phone with her friends, bargain shopping, and traveling to the UP. In addition to all these things, she will be remembered for a smile that lit up her face and the positive attitude that always made you feel good when you were around her.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Diane Sadler and Myra Thomas.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Chuck, two sons - Tony Hill and William “Rod” (Valerie) Sievers, a sister - Bonnie (Harold) Cagle, all of South Haven. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Clint, Amanda and Mollye Sievers, and Jenna and Drew Hill.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22 from 6 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the South Haven Moose Lodge. Kindly share your thoughts and memories on the family’s online guest book at www.FilbrandtFFH.com.
The family is being helped by the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven 637-0333.
