Richard's Obituary
Richard Edward Madsen, 61, of South haven died Thursday, January 20 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born August 13, 1949 in Bay City, Michigan to Theodore and Ollie Madsen. Richard served his country in the army during the Vietnam War. Richard married Sylvia Rodriquez on November 19, 1994 at the First English Lutheran Church in South Haven. Richard worked for Hayworth in Holland as a woodworker retiring in 1995. He enjoyed playing cards on the computer especially Texas Hold um, watching war movies, and when he was younger he enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. Richard also liked to ride his lawn mower.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his son – Jason Barber.
He is survived by his wife – Sylvia Madsen and his sister, Patty (Mark) Doyle of South Haven. Seven children – Kara, Alicia and Devon Madsen. Patricia (Rick) Blair all of South Haven, Michigan. Steven (Michelle) Barber of California, Eddie (Caren) Madsen of Lawrence, Michigan and Julie Madsen of Florida. Ten grandchildren – Zachary Redaway, Kahlieb Redaway, Athina Barber, Cesar (Brenda) Oachoa, Gabrial, Katherine, Elizabeth, Kierstin and Caleb Barber, Aspen Johnson, Madeline and Alexander Madsen. Three great grand children – Lillian Fletcher, Cesor Barber Jr. and Macenzie.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 25, from 4 to 6 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow beginning at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Madsen family
