Doris Ann's Obituary

Doris Ann Ollgaard, 86, of South Haven died Sunday, October 31 at The River Ridge Retirement Village.

She was born on November 17, 1923 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Thomas and Jean (Bergmans) Welmers. Doris moved to South Haven in 1950 with her husband, Vern, after he finished Pharmacy School and took a job at the MacDonald Drug Store. Doris was a homemaker until her five children were all attending school. She then worked several years as a secretary for the South Haven office of the Campfire Girls of America, worked for 11 years for the South Haven Public Schools as a secretary at L.C.Mohr High School, after which she retired. She was a Member of the South Haven Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a hospital volunteer for over 50 years. Doris served as the South Haven Memorial Library Board president and was a member of the Scott Club. She was a devoted member of the First Congregational Church for over 60 years and her church home played a prominent role in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband-Verner Ollgaard, and her brother- Thomas A. Welmers.

Doris is survived by her two sons-James and John Ollgaard, both of South Haven, Michigan. Three daughters-Jean(Martin)Cody Shrader of Clayton, Missouri, Martha(Jeff)Needham of Alma, Michigan and Ann(Doug)Boessneck of Aiken, South Carolina. Eight grandchildren – Christine Laaksonen, Elizabeth(Darryll)Blount, Anna (Dusten)Rose, Rebecca(Brian)Adkins, Katherine(Justin)Cummings, Sarah Needham, Eric (Elizabeth)Boessneck , Kirsten Boessneck and seven great grandchildren.

The Ollgaard family is profoundly grateful for the care, compassion and companionship she received from the Hospice at Home organization and the River Ridge employees.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday, November 18 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 19 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church UCC with Rev.Jeffrey S. Dick officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational Church or to We Care Inc.
