Gerald "Jerry"'s Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Soergel, 77, of South Haven died Thursday, August 26 at South Haven Community Hospital.
He was born January 18, 1933 in South Haven, Michigan to Harold Herman and Esther (Lily) Soergel. Jerry received his Bachelors Degree from Western Michigan University. He married Helen J. DeYoung on June 5, 1955. Jerry worked at ALVAN Motor Freight in Kalamazoo for 25 years retiring in 1995. Jerry was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church of South Haven. Jerry enjoyed his family and working in his yard.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his sister – Juanita Jensen.
He is survived by his wife – Helen J. Soergel of South Haven, Michigan. Four children- Kathryn E. (Mark) Lindquist of Grandville, Michigan, Nadine R. (Peter) Cinder of Rockford, Michigan, Keith W. (Elizabeth) Soergel of Coopersville, Michigan and Susan E. (Walter) Spielberger of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sister – Peggy (Alan) Kreps of Orlando, Florida also survives.
Visitation will be from 1 - 2 on Monday, August 30 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorial services will begin on Monday at 2:00 P.M. at the church with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Burial will take place at the Peace Lutheran Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions can be made to Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
