Ruth's Obituary
Ruth Novak, 95, of South Haven died Wednesday, June 2 at home.
She was born September 15, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to Leo and Fannie (Mintz) Gelfand. Ruth married Alvin Novak on February 4, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. Ruth has been a resident of South Haven for nearly 60 years. She and her husband with cousins, Ruth and Nate Tolen, owned and operated the N & R Department Store on Phoenix Street for many years.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Alvin Novak who died in 1997. Daughter – Donna McCreery who died in 1990.
She is survived by her son – Earl (Cathy) Novak of South Haven, Michigan. Son-in-law – Tom McCreery of South Haven, Michigan. One grandson – David McCreery of New York City.
Visitation will be Friday, June 4, from 11 – 1 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Friday at 1:00 PM at the First Hebrew Congregation Cemetery with Mr. Lou Price officiating.
