Edward's Obituary

Edward Z. Opiela, 51, of South Haven passed away Tuesday, May 18 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ed’s rich life was evident in his love for family and friends, and in his zeal for life. Ed loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting, boating, snowmobiling, golfing, and riding his Harley.

He was born September 2, 1958 in Tuszyma, Poland to Stanley and Genowefa (Bochenek) Opiela. Ed graduated from South Haven High School in 1977. He married Bonnie Popp on October 22, 1988 at St. Basil Catholic Church in South Haven, where he was a long time church member. Ed worked in maintenance for Albemarle Corp for the past 22 years.

He is preceded in death by his mother – Genowefa Opiela who died in 2008.

He is survived by his wife – Bonnie Opiela of South Haven, Michigan. His father – Stanley Opiela of South Haven, Michigan. One brother – Mark (Faith) Opiela of Grand Haven, Michigan and two sisters – Kristina (John) Kasishke of South Haven, Michigan and Maria (Jeff) TeRoller of Caledonia, Michigan. Nieces and nephews – Lauren, David and Tyler Kasishke, Michael and Rachel TeRoller, Daren Clouse also survive.

A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, May 22 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
