Walter's Obituary

Walter Crenshaw, 70, of Benton Harbor died Friday, April 9, 2010 at Lakeland hospital in St. Joseph.

He was born March 10, 1940 in Berrien Springs, Michigan to James Vaughn and Vennie (Shurn) Crenshaw. He was a member of Our Center for Better Living Christian Church International in Benton Harbor for over twenty years. He attended Benton Harbor High School. Walter worked at Paterson printing and Sanitary Shoes Shop for over twenty years. He was an entrepreneur along with his son Tyrone Crenshaw having their own shoe shop in Niles, Michigan. He took great pride in his work.

Walter had two favorite quotes, “If you do right it will be right.” and “If you can look up you can get up.” Walter’s pet name was “Pretty Walkie.”

He is survived by eight sons – Tyrone Crenshaw of Illinois, Walter (Tina) Crenshaw of Illinois, Casey Ross of Illinois, Terrell Crenshaw of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Curtis (Naomi) Crenshaw of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Laron Crenshaw of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ladell Crenshaw of Grand Rapids, Michigan Noble Fluellen of Allegan, Michigan; four daughters- Vickey (Sylvester) Hill of Saginaw, Michigan, Arlene Crenshaw of Saginaw, Michigan, Crystal Crenshaw, of Saginaw, Michigan and Rosetta Biggins of Saginaw, Michigan. A very special person to Walter and his family Mattie Wolfe, who was faithfully at his side committed and dedicated. Seven brothers- Willie (Christine) Crenshaw of Grover, Missouri, Ralph David Crenshaw of Benton Harbor, Michigan, James (Dolly) Crenshaw of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Robert (Katherine) Vaughn of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Leo (Lavonne) Vaughn, Benton Harbor, Michigan, Mike Vaughn of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Charles Vaughn of Benton Harbor, Michigan; six sisters- Lorah Beck of Benton Harbor, Michigan Alma (Steve) White of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Charlotte (Henry) Snead of Berrien Springs, Michigan, Mildred (Willie) Leslie of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Jeanette (Elijah) Thompson of Benton Harbor, Michigan and Christine (Raynard) Brown of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Wake will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, at the Greater Faith Apostolic Church. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 12 p.m. at the church with Pastor Joseph Lewis Cunningham.
