John DeWitt Coone

John DeWitt Coone, 65, of South Haven died Thursday, December 3 at home.

He was born December 26, 1943 in Battle Creek, Michigan to DeWitt Mann and Katherine Adelia (Thompson) Coone. John served his country in the U.S. Navy. He married Billie Poston on February 19, 1966 in Pamplico, South Carolina. John worked as a welder at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant retiring in 2003. John enjoyed yard work, National Tractor Pulls, cooking, and his grandchildren. John was a member of the American Legion Post #49 and the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge #697.

He is survived by his wife – Billie Coone of South Haven, Michigan. Two daughters – Bobbie (Calvin) Benton of Wappingers Falls, New York and Johnnie (Tracy) Phillips of South Haven, Michigan. Three grandchildren – Skylar Coone of New York, Samantha Phillips and Shelby Phillips both of South Haven, Michigan. One sister – Joan Sumption of Marshall, Michigan and one brother – Larry Coone of Battle Creek, Michigan.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 6 from 2 – 4 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Burial will take place at Prosser Cemetery in South Carolina. Memorial contributions can be made to the Al-Van Humane Society.
