Sophie's Obituary
Sophie Mary Militello, 92, of South Haven died Sunday, April 19 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
She was born April 21, 1916 in Menominee, Michigan to Thomas and Katherine (Nahirniak) Shek. Sophie married George Militello on May 8, 1938. She worked for Everett Piano Company for over 20 years. Sophie enjoyed crocheting, hooking rugs and most crafts. She was always there as a helper for her relatives, friends and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – George Militello who died in 1979. Three brothers – Alex, Joe and Thomas Shek.
She is survived by one son – Thomas (Doris) Militello of South Haven, Michigan. One daughter – Frances Beatty of St. Petersburg, Florida. Four grandchildren – David and Susan Militello and Jamie and Jason Beatty. Four Great grandchildren – Sophie, Hayden, Michael and Isaac. Two sisters – Tillie Klien of Lake Zuric, Illinois and Catherine (John) Sandona of Chicago, Illinois. Two brothers – Paul Shek of Bloomingdale, Michigan and Walter Shek of Chicago, Illinois also survive.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 23 from 6 – 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at St. Basil Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Basil Educational Endowment Fund.
