Robert, you left to soon my friend, I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. You will be greatly missed. I already feel lost not having my buddy around to talk to on break and listening to your stories of being in the military, a police/security officer, which almost always made me smile or laugh. And to your family.......I am sure your loss is painful and unexpected, just as it was to all of us that were Rob's friends. Robert was a good guy and he will be missed by a lot of people. If there is anything I can do, here in Illinois, just let me know by email and I will be greatful to help in anyway I can. Peace Brother until we meet again, my hat goes off to you my friend and my hand over my heart in respect to your absence...

John 11:40 "Then Jesus said, 'Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?'" In his heart, Robert believed in God . . . and now has a front row seat in His presence, where he can see His magnificent glory continually. My heart and prayers go out to both his mother, his children and his grandchildren. His great love for his family was evident in our many conversations over the years. Please allow God to comfort you and keep you in this difficult time and always. Robert is missed.

I saw Robert every day at work, as he worked on my floor at the Division of Insurance. He always had something funny to say, or at least a funny look to give you. It's a little bit more somber here without Robert, and strange to not hear him every day - he is missed by his friends and co-workers here at the Division. Thoughts and prayers to his family at this sad time.

Hi, Bobbie: You know you surprised me by leaving all of us, but then, you were good at surprises. I am so very happy that we started becoming loving, understanding and close siblings, I hunger for more. I am going to miss how you could make me SCREAM with laughter, you would say things in a certain way and have that look on your face as you said it -- I loved that! You WILL be missed, I love you very much and I know you will understand why I made the decision that I made. Again I am missing and loving you. Well, you have my e-mail address so drop me a line sometime. I love you, Marie

My condolences to the Howard family. I served with Bobby at SHPD and learned much from him and treasure many memories. He was so bright, so sharp & a lot of fun, too. I still have the sketch he did of my son when he was a teenager (Bobby was a gifted artist, too) and a sweater I got from him. I was very, very sad to hear of his passing. Always, Gloria

Although I haven't seen or heard from Bobby since the South Haven days, he's the kind of guy that if I run in to him in heaven, we'll pick up our friendship right where it left off. I'll always remember Bobby as a great customer at my store, The Music Box, where he often spent off-duty time and occasionally helped out in his professional capacity as a strong police officer. Bobby was always welcome in my store and in my home. I'll never forget his beautiful smile, his laugh, his quick wit and his extraordinary ability to make quick friends with almost anybody. I think he got some of the genes that helped our president win the election! God bless and keep you, Bobby. The world was a better place with you in it. My condolences to his many friends and large family. Part of my heart left with Bobby, too. Ken Lynam Dunedin, FL

I've worked with Robert at Insurance for many years. I miss him so much already and cannot believe he is gone. Robert sketched my parents' 50th wedding anniversary portrait and I will treasure it always. He was a true gentleman, a true artist and a true friend with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved his family very much and bragged about them often. He was especially proud of his youngest little "clone". My thoughts and prayers are with his family during these difficult times.

Just today, Feb 23, I saw the obit notice that my dear friend, my mentor, Bobby Howard, had passed away. I had not seen Bobby for over 20 years; I'd heard he moved to Chicago (I got ocassional updates from folks who ran into him). I was just rookie cop back in '75 when Bobby took me under his wing and said "Gonna train you RIGHT, BOY!" And he and I worked together for several years on the same shift until he left police work in '79 or so. Bobby was a TON OF FUN to work with, he knew EVERYBODY (and I mean EVERYBODY!) and had a heart of pure gold! I was hoping to look him up in a couple years when I retire, but I guess thats put off for a while. Hey Bobby, say hi to the old boys of SHPD: Larry, Louie, Glenn and Ray. Godspeed old friend, I'll never forget you. Charles Loughrin VBC Sheriff's Office

hey dad, it's me. I thought I would leave you a line or two, outside of the daily talks we have. I never got a chance to get in that last "goodbye" or "I love you", so for now it's never goodbye and I tell you I love you everyday. I will continue on from all your wise words and advice and try my hardest to do the same for my girls. You will be greatly missed and i can hold my head up and say that Im proud of everything you have done for me and in life. I am forever grateful that we were able to establish this great realtionship before you left me......I love you dad...forever

I was so sorry to learn of Bobby's passing. Like others, I remember "Officer Bobby" from South Haven in the 70's. He was kind with a great sense of humor. He always had a smile and a wave when he drove by our house and we always knew he was on the job. I've thought of him many times over the years - he was someone who made a difference.

Hey dad, I've been thinking long and hard about a few things that I never got to tell you, and it's killing me inside. I never got a chance to tell you that I do love you. We didn't get to spend much time together, but what little time we did get to spend with each other was great. It's been very difficult being in Springfield the last few weeks and not being able to see you. Every time I turn a corner, I expect to still see you. I still wish that I just had a little more time with you. but because of you I've become much closer to my siblings and the rest of the family. I love you dad, always and forever.
