Irene Julia Steinbach

Irene Julia Steinbach, 78, of South Haven died Tuesday, September 23 at Bickford Cottage in Portage, Michigan.

She was born April 26, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana to Casimir J. and Julia H. (Wojdula) Wiacek. Irene graduated from Bangor High School in 1948. She then attended St. Mary College in South Bend, Indiana. Irene worked at Sherman Flavor House as manager, Dr. Dempster office, Adams Electronics in Bangor and Irene was also a greeter at the South Haven Wal-Mart retiring in 2004. Irene was a member of St. Basil Catholic Church and was a member of the Alter Rosary Society. Irene enjoyed oil painting.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her daughter – Lynn Frohriep in 2000, great grandson – Tyler Wittenberg, brother – Eugene Wiacek and an infant brother.

She is survived by her 4 children – John (Diana) Steinbach of Naples, Florida, Janet Parry of Chicago, Illinois, Gary (Sandy) Steinbach of Portage, Michigan, and Michael Steinbach of Camino, California. Son-in-law – Michael Frohriep of Sturgis, Michigan. 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. 2 brothers – Casey (Irene) Wiacek of Bangor, Michigan and Ed Wiacek of Bloomingdale, Michigan. 2 sisters – Theresa (Leroy) Schaub of Stevensville, Michigan and Lucy Arndt of Grand Rapids, Michigan also surviving, is her former spouse – Michael Steinbach of Madison, Mississippi.

Visitation will be Friday, September 26 from 2- 4 P.M. and 6 – 8 P.M. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with a Rosary prayer at 7:00. Funeral mass will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place at Hamilton Township Cemetery Decatur, Michigan.
