Lester's Obituary
Lester Levi Birmingham, 88, of South Haven died Thursday, August 28 at Watervliet Community Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1919 in Greenville, Missouri to Levi Harrison and Calla Virginia (Marler) Birmingham. Lester served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lester married Alice Underwood on September 26, 1992 in Benton Heights, Michigan.
Lester owned and operated Lester’s Texaco Service Station on the corner of Phoenix and Blue Star Hwy. for 23 years retiring in 1975. He also did some farm work.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by siblings – Jesse Birmingham, Dorothy Pemberten, Dormerlee Birmingham, and Kenneth Birmingham. One granddaughter – Michelle Lee Birmingham also precedes him.
He is survived by his wife – Alice Birmingham of South Haven, Michigan. One son – Pete (Dee) Birmingham of South Haven, Michigan One daughter – Jeanie (Larry) Trantham of Bangor, Michigan. Three step-sons - Donald Jene (Becky) Kester, Dana (Kim) Kester and M. Alan Kester all of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Two step-daughters - Marti Lore (Raymond) Holmes and Lisa Jeanette Burson both of Bangor, Michigan. 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Two sisters - Eula Eckert of Greenville, Missouri and Helen Henson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. First wife – Ann Birmingham also survives.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2 from 11 -1 at the Miracle Harvest Church. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the church with Pastor Anthony Kuenzli officiating. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Miracle Harvest Church.
