Genowefa Opiela

Genowefa Opiela, 74, of South Haven went home to be with our Lord on Friday, June 27 in South Haven where she resided for 42 years with her husband and family.
She was born April 15, 1934 in Tuszyum, Poland to Kunegunda and Ignacy Bochenek. She was devoted to her faith and family, especially to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was married in Poland to Stanley Opiela more then 50 years ago. In 1965 she immigrated with her husband and family to the United States where they set up residence in South Haven, Michigan.
She was a faithful member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church where she attended with her husband and family. She was a devote Catholic who also enjoyed reading, gardening, and caring for her 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Opiela, two sons, Edward (Bonnie) Opiela of South Haven, Michigan, Mark (fiancée Faith Chichester) Opiela of Fennville, Michigan, two daughters, Kristina (John) Kasishke of South Haven, Michigan and Maria (Jeff) TeRoller of Caledonia, Michigan, and five grandchildren Lauren, David, and Tyler Kasishke, and Michael and Rachel TeRoller. She is also survived by 2 brothers who currently reside in Poland (Edward and Tadeusz Bochenek).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 1 at 11:00 A.M at St. Basil’s Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association 648 Monroe Avenue NW, Suite 004 Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
