Dora Emma's Obituary
Dora Emma (Hope) Erny, 92, of South Haven died Tuesday, June 24 at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven.
She was born October 26, 1915 in South Haven, Michigan to Paul and Elsie Hope. Dora lived at River Ridge Retirement Village the past 7 years after having moved from the family farm on Phoenix Road east of South Haven. Dora was a founding member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bangor. Dora was a life long member of the Van Buren County Farm Bureau. In 1988, Dora was honored to the Farm Bureau Farm Woman Hall of Fame. Dora has donated over 5550 hours of volunteer service to the South Haven Hospital Auxiliary. She was a board member of the Van Buren County Red Cross where she also assisted with blood drives for many years.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Alfred H. Erny who died in 1998 and her son – Wayne Erny in 1990. Sister – Marquerite Paulson and brother – Alfred Hope.
She is survived by one son – Dale (Mary) Erny of Benton Harbor, Michigan and one daughter – Elaine (David) deBest of South Haven, Michigan. One daughter-in-law – Roberta Erny of St. Joseph, Michigan. Grandchildren – Angela (Rob) Kahl, Melissa Erny, Jay Erny, Lisa Schemenauer, Brian (Kristy) deBest, Doug (Kerri) deBest , Jeanne (Randy) Seys, Robert Erny, and Gregory (Nancy) Erny. Great grandchildren – , Caleb Murray, and Grant Murray, Heather deBest, Heidi deBest, Madelynn deBest, Grace deBest, Corey Erny, and Lydia McCabe.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 on Thursday, June 26 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor, Michigan. Burial will take place at Chambers Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church , South Haven Hospital Auxiliary or South Haven Hospice at Home.
