James Howard's Obituary
James Howard Brewington, 84, of South Haven passed away on Monday, December 10 at Borgess Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born January 19, 1923 in Lebanon, Tennessee to Lillard and Julia (Jones) Brewington. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific, spending time in both New Guinea and the Philippines. Howard married Betty Morris on September 5, 1964. Howard worked as the head greens keeper at the South Haven Country Club for 35 years retiring in 1987 as well as for the city of South Haven. Howard was well known and loved South Haven, always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved fishing, auto racing and people. In later years he was very involved with his church, New Life Christian Center of Coloma and the church family who all came to know him as “Grandpa”.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his brother – Robert Brewington.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years – Betty Brewington of South Haven, Michigan. Three sons – Darrell (Sue) Brewington of Suttons Bay, Michigan, Steve (Bobby) Malone of Lebanon, Tennessee and Ronnie (Janean) Brewington of South Haven, Michigan. One daughter – Carol (Duane) Rowlson of Wyoming, Michigan. 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. One brothers – Matthew (Dorothy) Brewington of Lebanon, Tennessee and one sister – Margaret Larkins of Nashville, Tennessee also survive.
Visitation will be from 6 - 8 on Thursday, December 13 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at the New Life Christian Church of Coloma with Pastor Larry Nail officiating. Burial will take place ay McDowell Cemetery.
