Richard "Rick"'s Obituary

Richard “Rick” Zurek,66, of South Haven died Wednesday, October 24 at South Haven Community Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Wanda (Zwienczkowski) Zurek. Richard served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Rick was a car enthusiast, farmer, mechanic, handyman, and traveler. He was a member of St. Basil Catholic Church, a Knight of Columbus, and an Our Town Player. He was a community activist, amateur historian, philosopher and theologian. In addition to being a passionate hobbyist, he was also a devoted husband, loving father and obedient son.

He is preceded in death by his father – Walter Zurek who died in 1982. His first wife Barbara Zurek in 2002

He is survived by his wife Cathy Zurek of South Haven. Six sons – Richard (Joy) Zurek of Holiday Hills, Illinois, Jon (Pat) Zurek of South Haven, Michigan, Alex (Kelli) Zurek of Lansing, Michigan, James (Suzi) Zurek of Seattle, Washington, Tom (Angela) Zurek of Lynnwood, Washington, Paul Zurek of Tacoma, Washington. Four Daughters – Adria (Kevin) Blott of the Netherlands, Vanessa (Chris) Robertson of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, Rosanne (Bryan) Swanson of Seattle, Washington and Zerah Zurek and Sean Florence of Tacoma, Washington. 11 Grandchildren – Laura, Ayla, Patrice, Janine, Andrew, Erica, Joey, Lily, Stevie, Tangerine, and Isabel. 1 Great grandchild - Demetrius. 3 step-children – Edan Valkner, Brad Valkner both of South Haven and Emily Valkner of Rolett, Texas. His mother – Wanda Zurek of South Haven, Michigan. Three sisters – Frances (Larry) Morgan of Sacramento, California Betty (Art) Klode of Lansing, Illinois and Linda Wood of Covert, Michigan.

Visitation will be from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 on Friday, October 26 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger and The Rev. Andrew Gross officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society.
