Irene's Obituary
Irene Gertrude Morsette, 96, of South Haven died Friday, October 5 at South Haven Community Hospital.
She was born April 1, 1911 in LaPorte, Indiana to Paul P. and Helen (Dobbs) Shelby. Irene married William C. Morsette on October 6, 1934 in LaPorte, Indiana. Irene worked as a bookkeeper for the Harding Williams Restaurant and later the Chicago Typographical Union both in Chicago. Irene was a member of St. Basil Catholic Church and the Scott Club of South Haven. Irene enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – William Morsette who died in 1965. Her daughter, Michele Vitale, who died in 2006. Also by eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters – Cynthia (Art) Clarke of South Haven, Michigan and Claudette Murphy of Charleston, South Carolina. Son-in-law – Richard Vitale of Raleigh, North Carolina. Eight grandchildren – Kim DeWald, Chip (Kathy) Murphy, Peter (Judy) Murphy, David (Michelle) Vitale, Daniel Vitale, Elizabeth (Stephan) Farrell, Megan (Spencer) Hodgman and Kristen (Jeff0 Hoag. Nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 Monday, October 8 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert Flickinger officiating. Burial will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois. Memorial contributions can be made to River Ridge Activity Fund.
