Gloria Alice's Obituary

Gloria Alice Bachman, 79, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, of Watervliet formerly of South Haven, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, July 28 at her home.

She was born April 6, 1928 in South Haven, Michigan to Arthur and Lottie (Bennett) Kalhorn. Gloria attended area schools and graduated from LC Mohr High School in South Haven. She married Leo Bachman on June 20, 1947 in South Haven and they resided in South Haven for 49 years, then moved to Watervliet in 1996. Gloria spent most of her life as a homemaker and worked 10 years at Arkins Book and Cards from the mid-eighties to the mid-nineties. Gloria enjoyed attending bible study, crossword puzzles, watching sports, baking her famous apple pies, working in her flowers and most of all, spending time with her family. Gloria will be remembered as a very giving mom and grandma. Gloria was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Watervliet.

She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband – Leo Bachman who died on May 13, 2005.

She is survived by two daughters – Linda (Mike) Thaler and Susan (Ray) Moore both of Watervliet, Michigan. Two sons – Thomas (Dianne) Bachman of South Haven and Terry (Patti) Bachman of Portage, Michigan. 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Two brothers – Jerome (Georgia) Kalhorn of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Fred Kalhorn of East Islip, New York. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, August 2 at 11:00 A.M. at the Midway Baptist Church in Watervliet with Pastor Mark Cowell officiating. Friends and family may come for a time of visitation from 10:00 until the time of the service at the church. Luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens. Memorial contribution can be made to ALS of Western Michigan or Lakeland Hospice.
