David Gilbert's Obituary
David Gilbert Hiser, 69, of Glenn, Michigan died Monday, October 2 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
He was born March 3, 1937 in St. Ignace, Michigan to Dora (Lamureux) and Anson Hiser. David married Marlene Laaksonen on October 26, 1957 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rudyard, Michigan. He worked for the State of Michigan –MDOT for 32 years retiring in 1988. After his retirement, David worked on the “Captain Chuck” for 7 years and also for Dutchman Orchards for the past 16 years. David loved to fish off his boat named “M and the 5 D’s. He also enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his father – Anson Hiser who died in 1980 and his grandson Stephen Compton in 2000.
He is survived by his wife – Marlene Hiser of Glenn, Michigan. His children – David (Michele) Hiser Jr., of St. Ignace, Michigan, Dori (Gary) Compton of Glenn, Michigan, Donna (Greg) Holloway of Norfolk, Virginia, Denise (Paul) Houston of Madisonville, Tennessee and ex son-in-law – Steve Dorna of Sweetwater, Tennessee. Mother – Dora Hiser of Moran, Michigan. Grandchildren – Jade and Zack Hiser, Amy, Kathy and David Holloway, Tyler and Stephanie Compton. Great Grandchildren – Jasmine, Caleb and Javon. Two brothers – Phil (Julie) Hiser of California and Frank (Deb) Hiser of Jonesville, Michigan. Two sisters – Ruth Macgregor of Detroit, Michigan and Joyce Smith of Flint, Michigan. 6 brother and sister-in-laws – Leonard (Marcy) Laaksonen of Fennville, Michigan, Marian Gill of Phoenix, Arizona, Wilhart (Bobbi) ) Laaksonen of Florida, Carl (Merle) Laaksonen of Holland, Michigan, Bonnie (Dick) Johnson of Douglas, Michigan and Dale Laaksonen of Holland, Michigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 on Friday, October 6 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 7 at 10:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Linstrom officiating. Burial will take place at McDowell Cemetery in Casco Township. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pullman AA.
