Joan's Obituary
Joan Miller Johnson, born March 23, 1928, passed away December 1, 2012 at Lifehouse Vista & Villas in Holland, Michigan.
Joan, pronounced Jo-Ann, was born to Clyde Beechum & Verna Alexander Miller in Ashland, Kentucky and then moved to Allegan, Michigan when she was a little girl. After graduating from high school, she married Emery Harold Johnson of Otsego, just out of the Navy.
Joan owned and operated Jo’s Superette in Glenn, MI from 1968 to 1976.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren – Julie Cummins of Plymouth, MI, Joshua Grimes of South Haven, MI, great-granddaughter Ellie Jakubowski of Plymouth, MI; three brothers, C. Eugene Miller of Traverse City, MI, H. Jack & wife Phyllis Miller of Grand Rapids, MI and Carl Ray Miller of Allegan, MI and son-in-law Wayne Cummins of Bonita Springs, FL.
Joan is survived by her husband Emery: son Richard (Judy) Johnson of South Haven, MI; daughters – Linda Cummins of N. Fort Myers, FL and Julie (Ted) Weber of South Haven, MI. Five grandchildren – Cassie (Michael) Jakubowski of Plymouth, MI, Clayton Cummins of N. Fort Myers, FL, Jacob (Aeria) Grimes of Grand Junction, MI, Carmen (Troy) Rye of Tucson, AZ, Sarah (Adam) Shinske of Tucson, AZ. Seven Great-Grandchildren – Emma and Sophie Jakubowski of Plymouth, MI, Avery and Kadyn Hoyt, Joshua Grimes of Grand Junction, MI, Isabella and Victoria Cummins of MN. One sister – Janis (Dale) Orr of Allegan, MI and one brother – C. John (Reva) Miller of Marco Island, Fl. Joan also has many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Visitation and celebration of life ceremony will be held Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church, 06321 Blue Star Hwy, South Haven, MI at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, respectively. Joan’s nephew, Pastor Jack Miller Jr. will conduct the service.
