Mark Andrew Davis

Mark Andrew Davis, 45, formerly of South Haven, passed away on April 13, 2013 after a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was a determined, courageous fighter and always optimistic.  His optimism and sense of humor was an encouragement others.  Mark was very loving, upbeat, and devoted to his family, his friends and co-workers. He was always known for his smile.

 Mark was born in Stuttgart, Germany to George “Andy” and Judy (Schemenauer) Davis on January 12, 1968.  He graduated from South Haven High School in 1986 and Michigan Tech University in 1990 with a BS degree and in 1992 with a MS degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.  He was a member of Boy Scouts of America where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

 Mark loved to be active, be it kayaking; hiking; camping and reading (mostly technical manuals).  He loved to help anyone who needed a hand at whatever project they had.  He especially enjoyed his family and playing with his nieces & nephew. One of his most favorite places was the “Old Stein Inn” restaurant, where he was known as “Rocket Scientist Mark”.

 Mark was employed by the National Department of Defense (Dept. of Navy) and worked directly with the Naval Research Lab for over 20 years.  He was a computer scientist specializing in tracking Satellites with Computers, Telescopes, Lasers and recording and predicting Orbits.  He loved the traveling around the world his job required although he rarely took vacation time except to spend Thanksgiving in Florida with family and Christmas in Michigan with family.

Mark is survived by his parents, George (Andy) & Judy Davis of South Haven, MI.; brothers Kenneth M. of South Haven, Brian (Beth), and nieces Hope and Shiloh and nephew Caleb Davis all of Algonac, Michigan.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Fritz Kruithof officiating. Mark will be laid to rest at Chambers Cemetery in Geneva Township.
