Melvin's Obituary

 

 

Melvin Hartley, 61, of Bangor, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Alex and Mary (Westbrook) Hartley on February 7, 1952.

He is preceded in death by his father – Alex Hartley and his brothers Sam and Jimmy.

He leaves his devoted wife – Ruby Hartley of Bangor; son – Jerome Hartley of Grand Rapids; mother – Mary Hartley of Chicago; sisters – Eileen, Deloris, Chiquita, Alexas, Shirl, Stephanie, Louise, Marsha, Margaret, and Gail. A host of relatives also survive.

He will be best remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, beautiful soul, and easy going manner. He was a friend to all. He also was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of South Haven,  Rev. Philip Haner pastor. He was an avid lover of Gospel Music. He also loved to read, fish, and being close to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him forever, especially is special friend – Erick Johnson.

Wake will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven. Funeral services will follow the wake at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev.  Philip Haner officiating. Melvin will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
