Jennie's Obituary

Jennie L. Johnson, 103,of Traverse City, and formerly of South Haven, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at her home.  She was born on March 22, 1911 to Ned and Gertrude Lundy on March 22, 1911 in Kibbee, Michigan. Jennie always lived in or around South Haven, except for 32 winters spent in Brooksville, FL. After graduating from South Haven High School, Jennie worked at Michigan Gas Utilities. She worked off and on at the gas company until 1962 when she semi-retired. She then worked summers at the Montgomery Ward Catalog store. She moved to Traverse City in 2002.

She loved to knit especially for her grandchildren. She was known for making a particular kind of baby sweater that zipped up the back. She made a great many of these and when she heard about a friend or relative that was going to have a baby, she would start knitting.

She married Allen Johnson in May of 1932. He passed away in September of 1980. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister - Evelyn Lundy, two brothers - Arthur and Harold Lundy, and twin granddaughters.

Surviving are her three children - Richard (Bonnie) Johnson of Lansing, Evelyn (Carl) Johnson of Traverse City, and Donald (Sandi) Johnson of South Haven/Brooksville, FL. She is survive by ten grandchildren and their spouses, 21 great-grandchildren, and five great-great granddaughters, brother - Skip (Theresa) Lundy of Kwadin, MI, and many nephews and neices. She will be greatly missed by her family, many of them who knew her as Grama Jennie.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Monks Cemetery in Geneva Twp. with Rev. Harold Filbrandt officiating. Contributions may be sent in Jennie's memory to the Lori Neilsen Scholarship Fund in South Haven or the Commission on Aging in Traverse City.
