Lawrence's Obituary
Lawrence Guy Lyman was born January 15, 1935 in South Haven, Michigan. His parents were Grace Barden and E. Guy Lyman. He died on March 18, 2014 in Sulphur, Louisiana.
Larry graduated from South Haven High School in 1953 and from Michigan State University in 1957. He was very proud to have been a member of the MSU Marching band that marched in the Rose Bowl Parade in 1954 and 1956. In 1957 he joined the U.S. Navy Supply Corps and served for 21 years. During that career he had duties in Rhode Island, New Orleans, Japan, Washington, Viet Nam, and then back to Michigan State where he got his MBA. With that degree he was sent back to Washington, on to Cleveland and then to Philadelphia where he retired in 1979 with the rank of Commander. First Federal Savings and Loan was his next career. He was their Loan Officer and then a Vice-President of that organization when he retired again in 1996. Since that time he has been an active member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church. He has made many friends on his walks at SPAR.
He is survived by his wife of 54½ years, Ilene Seale Lyman; two sons, Guy Kent Lyman and wife Shez, and their daughter Jessica of Nebraska, and Lawrence William Lyman and his wife Andrea Torres of Austin, Texas. He will be greatly missed by his brother-in-law, Kent Seale and his entire family, and in Michigan, by his niece Shelly Adkin Newton and her family; cousins, Richard D. Barden and family; and his Lyman cousins, Don Spencer, Dorothy Scott, Kathy Arnett and Linda Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Salvation Army, Donor Processing Center, P. O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD; Navy Supply Corps Foundation, P.O.Box 6228., Athens, GA 30604; Henning Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Ruth St., Sulphur, LA 70663 or to the charity of your choice.
Larry's family is grateful for the kindness and care he received in his recent illness by the staffs of WCCH and St. Patrick's Hospital and to Dr. Brian Gamborg. We appreciate the care and concern of our friends in Louisiana, Michigan and others scattered around the country.
