Bernard Laviere Krogel

Bernard Laviere Krogel, 94, of South Haven, Michigan and long time resident of Bangor, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 at his son's Rick home in Covert. He was born February 20, 1920 to John and Bernice (Hogmire) Krogel in South Haven, Michigan. Bernie was a 1938 graduate of Bangor High School.  Bernie served his country during World War II in the Army as a Quarter Master.  He was stationed in Italy during the war. Bernie married Gladys Stejskal on January 10, 1948.  Gladys died in 1979.   He then wed  Beatrice Cogswell on August 3, 1985.  She died in 2013.   During his life, Bernie worked at the Everett Piano Factory in South Haven for 22 years, and John Deer in Bangor for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Following his retirement, he volunteered by delivering Mobile Meals for 12 years.  Bernard was a member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents, his wives - Gladys and Bea Krogel, step daughter - Carolyn Zmuda,  three grandchildren - Scott Zmuda, Ben Schewe and Brook Krogel.

He is survived by his children - Gail (Ron) Brewer of San Jose, Costa Rica, Michael (Delora) Krogel of Plymouth, Michigan, Steven Krogel of South Haven, Rick (Misty) Krogel of Covert, Todd Krogel of Holland, Rick (Alta) Schewe of Grand Junction, MI, Steven (Carol) Schewe of Pullman, MI. 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 24 from 6 to 8 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home  in South Haven. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating. Bernard will be laid to rest in Hoppin Cemetery in Bangor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church or to Grace Hospice of Kalamazoo.
