Lauren's Obituary

Lauren Hallgren, 84, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in South Haven. Larry was born on Dec. 20, 1930 in South Haven, to Clifford and Agnes (Fitts) Hallgren. After graduating from South Haven High School in 1949 he went into the army. His three year enlistment took him to Japan and then to Korea where he served one year. He received the Bronze Star during his time in Korea. Larry married Jeanne Mileham on March 27, 1953 in Casco.

After graduating from the Embrey Riddle School of Aviation in Miami, FL he took a temporary job at Bohn Aluminum in South Haven and retired from there 38 years later. His retirement years were spent in his work shop making many beautiful projects from wood.

Larry was an avid reader, a history buff, enjoyed traveling and was a NASCAR fan. He loved the American flag and critiqued every rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that preceded the races.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James and two daughters, Joanne and Janet.

Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years – Jeanne. His children, Jack; Jeff (Evie); Jill (Bill) Bergsma; Jon (Wendy); Jerry (Tina); Joy Lamb and Josh (Leslie); twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, and one sister, Susan Ovenshire in Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Glenn United Methodist Church, 1000, 6th Avenue, #46, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
