Elmer Lawson, Sr.

Elmer Lawson, 63, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. He was born May 12, 1952 to Lawrence and Lora (Gill) Lawson in Beckley, West Virginia. Elmer was a licensed contractor and master journeyman. Elmer married Judy Shea on September 27, 1975 in South Haven. He enjoyed antiquing, spending time with his family, and bird watching. Elmer was great at storytelling and had a way with words that a poet would envy. He enjoyed spending quality time with God in the Prayer Building that he was lead to build for all those that seek God.

He is preceded in death along with his parents by two brothers – Lowell Lucian and Robert Reed Lawson.

Elmer is survived by his wife of 40 years – Judy Lawson of South Haven; son – Elmer (Riki) Lawson, Jr. of South Haven; daughter – Jaline (Scott) Tucker of Saugatuck, Michigan; grandchildren – Alex, Reegan, and Mayson Lawson all  of South Haven and Skylar and Brandon Tucker of Saugatuck; step grandchildren – Andrea (Ricky) Winslow, Benjamin, Heather, and Amanda Tucker; great grandchild – Kaylynn Winslow; siblings – Deloris Stultz of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Cecelia (Les) Keson of Michigan, Florence Kelly and Larry (Pam) Lawson all of South Haven, Cleveland (Martha) Lawson of Wingo, Kentucky, Jim (Penny) Lawson of Concord, Michigan, Elaine Lawson of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, Rick (Anna) Lawson, Roberta (Dana) Kunezli, and Angie (Terry) McPike all of Bangor, Michigan.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven and 11:30 to 12:30 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12:30 PM at the church. Elmer will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elmer’s memory to Elmer Lawson, Jr.
