James's Obituary
James Underwood Pickell died April 11, 2016, at his home in South Haven, Michigan.
He was born Oct. 24, 1985, in Royal Oak, Michigan, to John and Mary Jane Pickell. After graduating in 2004 from Milford High School in metropolitan Detroit, he continued his education at Oakland Community College, Lake Michigan College, and Eastern Michigan University. A dedicated generalist with a special fondness for aggressive hip-hop, serialized speculative fiction, and shelter dogs, he will be remembered as a man of forthright charity and preternatural congeniality.
James is survived by his parents, both of South Haven; two brothers, John (and Stefanie) Pickell of Davison, Michigan, and Jeff Pickell of Denton, Texas; maternal grandfather Rolla Anderson of Kalamazoo, Michigan; paternal grandparents Jack and Carol Pickell of Gregory, Michigan; two nephews, John and Jaxson; and a niece, Harper.
James was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Patricia Anderson, and paternal grandmother, Doris Ann Pickell.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 429 Michigan Avenue, South Haven, Michigan 49090 with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating. Contributions may be made in James’ memory to the Al Van Humane Society, 73303 8th Ave, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
