George Green Lewis

George Green Lewis, 85, of Covert, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Grand Rapids. He was born May 4, 1931 to Levi and Olley Lewis in Earle, Arkansas. George married Joelean Martin on March 12, 1974, in Chicago, Ill. He worked as an auto-body mechanic at A-Frame body shops where he retired from.  He was a devoted Christian and was a member of the Masons, he loved cars, motorcycles, fishing, traveling and visiting family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Olley and Levi Lewis Sr., sister Maxine Lewis, brother Levi Lewis Jr, sons Charles Lewis, Michael Lewis, George Lewis Jr, and daughter Mary Rogers.

George is survived by his wife – Joelean Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona, children – Robin (Larry) Williams of Grand Rapids Mi., Latice Nickerson (Marshall) of Phoenix Az., Janice Lewis of Memphis, Tn., Mary Lewis of Wyoming, Mi., Vern (Latonya) Lewis Sr. of Covert Mi., Lillian Davis-Lewis of Grand Rapids Mi., Carla Lewis of Lansing Mi., Leroy Baines of Huntsville, Al, Judy Baines of Chicago Ill, Piper Christian, Constance, and Jessie Lewis all of Detroit, siblings – Harrieta Walton of Wisconsin, Bertha Lewis and Dorothy (Roy) White Earline Andrus all of Kansas City, Missouri, Christine of Chicago Ill, Pastor James Lewis Sr. of Boardbrook Ct., Richard (Ruth) Lewis of Chicago Ill, and Cleo (Helen) Lewis of Texas.

Wake will be held 11:00am on May 14 2016 at the Gospel Tabernacle Baptist 32605 M-140 Covert, MI. Funeral services will follow the wake at 12:00 PM at the church with Pastor Henry Allen, Sr. officiating. George will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery next to his mother, Olley.
