John's Obituary
John Elbert Parks, 80, of Bangor, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 in his home. He was born May 25, 1936 to John and Emma (Wyatt) Parks in Chicago, Illinois. John accepted Christ early in life and taught Sunday School at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, on the Southside of Chicago.
John married Inez Woods on November 21, 1994 in Paw Paw and shared 22 years of marriage. He worked as a supervisor at the People’s Gas, light and Coke Company for 34 years in Chicago. He was a blueberry farmer and successful business man selling insurance, diamonds, Amway products, and real estate.
John honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was an active member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard for a number of years.
John was a strong advocate for young adults and often volunteered his time in programs such as Jobs for Youth and Job Corp.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife – Patricia Marva Parks with whom he shares three children, and his cousins – Charles Chambers and Agnes Gresham.
John is survived by his wife – Inez Parks, and three children – Patricia Brdigetta of Dalton, Illinois, John (Yolanda) Paul Parks of Chicago, Illinois, and Joel Mark Parks of Hillsdale, Michigan, brother – Dr. Michael Parks of Covert, Michigan, 25 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM and service to immediately follow on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Covert with Rev. Love officiating.
Memorial service will be held November 26, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in Chicago, Illinois.
