Doris's Obituary

 

Doris Jean Wooten, 80, of South Haven, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Rose Arbor Hospice House in Kalamazoo, Michigan. 

Doris was born March 12, 1937 to Rev. Lee Andrew Steverson and Annie Bell Steverson, in Memphis TN.  On April 7, 1985 Doris married Dennis Wooten, in Chicago Illinois.  They shared 32 years of marriage together.  Doris was a homemaker who had a great passion for singing praises to God.  She enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with her children and family. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. L.A. Steverson and  Annie Bell Steverson.  Six sisters: Mary Steverson, Sade McIntosh, Etherene Spade, Mirt Steverson, Betty Davis, and Rosie Steverson.  Six brothers:  Wallace Powell, Alfred Tolbert, Jeffro Steverson, Marvin Steverson, Lee Andrew Steverson and Hamp Steverson.

Doris is survived by her husband, Dennis Wooten of Covert MI, children:  Janice (Prentiss) Allison of Chicago IL., Darrell (Louise) Simpson of Arcola  MS.,  Luretha Williams of Chicago  lL., Warren Simpson of South Haven MI.,  Joyce (Charles) Peterson of Bangor MI.,  Denise (Will) Murphy of Chicago Il., Donald (Robin) Simpson of Covert  MI.,  Terrell Wooten of Holland MI., DeSean Wooten of South Haven MI.,  and DeVonte Wooten of South Haven MI.,  Deborah (Rudy) Wright of Kalamazoo MI.,  Henry (Karynn) Simpson of Chicago IL.,  Steve (Beverly) Simpson of Chicago IL.,  Kenneth Simpson of Chicago IL. , Gwendolyn Thomas of Chicago IL and three sisters:  Mattie (Harry) Linton of Chicago IL., Mildred Cunningham of Taylor MI., and Erma Harper of South Haven MI.,  In-laws:  Nora Steverson of Forrest City AR., William Wooten of Chicago IL.,  Jack Wooten of Memphis TN., Nila Wooten of Milwaukee WI.  35 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A wake will be held from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Dec. 1, 2017 at Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church in Covert MI.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm.  Pastor Henry Allen will be officiating.  Doris will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery in Covert MI.
