Floyd's Obituary
Floyd Arthur Nelson, 92, of Bangor, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 17, 2017. He was born November 1, 1925 to Frank and Lena (Banta) Nelson in Breedsville, Michigan. Floyd married the love of his life, Wanda Ann Folk/Lafler on November 11, 1950. They had five children – Walter John, William Arthur (Gale), Brian Jay (Sally), Barbara Annette (Terry) Johnson, and Kathleen Sue (Max) Aguillon. He has 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Floyd has worn many hats in his life time. He served his country in the United States Army in the European Theatre in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 160 in Bangor. Floyd was later a police officer for the City of Constantine and Bangor. He worked at the John Deere dealership in Bangor. He later drove milk trucks for Sherman Dairy. He also drove schools bus, was the crossing guard at the high school and worked the chain gang for the Bangor Vikings. That’s just a few of the hats he wore over the years.
He is probably remembered most for riding his Honda Scooter all over town from Spring until Fall. He met the most people by being the Amtrak Greeter at the Depot in Bangor for many years before retiring in January of 2015. He was honored by U.S. Representative Fred Upton for his many years of service at the Depot where he greeted hundreds of passengers getting on and off the train in his own special way.
Floyd never missed a chance to give advice, even if he wasn’t in the conversation to start with. Somehow, he always managed to get his two cents in. He would always make an impression on everyone he met, making you think you were his best friend and always make a lasting impression on you. He may be gone from our lives, but he will never be forgotten because he left his mark on many people in his life time and will be missed by everyone he touched.
He is preceded in death along with his parents by his brother – Dwight Nelson, sisters – Virginia (Wesley) Hosier, Margaret (Dick) Rhoades, Betty (Deo) Rhoades, and a son Walter John.
He is survived by his wife Wanda, their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his brother – Keith Nelson.
